PRK Surgery

Photorefractive Keratectomy, also known as PRK, is a type of laser eye surgery that is used to treat myopia and hyperopia. Although LASIK eye surgery is more widely known, and tends to be more common, PRK was actually developed first. In the PRK procedure, a doctor uses a laser to remove small amounts of tissue that are on the surface of the cornea. Once this tissue is removed, they are able to reshape the cornea. There are certain conditions that make a patient a good candidate for PRK surgery, as opposed to LASIK. These include people who have a thin cornea, or scars on their cornea.
